The Global Youth Challenge is a world-wide competition that consists of public speaking, essay writing, and creative projects that grapple with the topic of climate change and the impact it has and will continue to have on our world.
Youth from around the world will be required to submit a 300 - 500 word essay plus a 3 - 4 minute video speech, or a visual artwork plus a 3 - 4 minute video speech.
Each entry will discuss the effects of climate change on populations around the world and will examine, through different perspectives, how humanity may play a part in alleviating current and future climate-related problems.
Chosen finalists will present their entry to a panel of judges for a chance to win:
1st Place Winner (one): $500 CAD, Certificate of Distinction, and A book: Saving Us-A Climate Scientist's Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World By Katharine Hayhoe.
2nd Place Winners (five): $200 CAD, Certificate of Distinction, and A book: Saving Us-A Climate Scientist's Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World By Katharine Hayhoe.
3rd Place Winners (ten): $100 CAD, Certificate of Distinction, and A book: Saving Us-A Climate Scientist's Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World By Katharine Hayhoe.
Top 25% of students: Free Online Leadership Class
The top 25% of students will also be eligible to win a $28,500 scholarship (provided by The Erindale Academy), which can be used over a 4-year period at The Erindale Academy. Transcripts must be submitted. Minimum GPA required.
The top 25% will also receive a Certificate of Distinction with their names posted on the Global Youth Challenge website.
All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
